About ScubaTerra

ScubaTerra is a dive-site discovery app: a place to find your next dive, learn what is actually down there, and keep track of the dives you have done and the ones you still want to do.

What's here

Discover

Swipe through dive sites one card at a time. Each card tells you where the site is, how deep it goes, how warm the water is, how you get in, what lives there and what other divers have said about it. Love it, want to go, not interested, or didn't love it: your swipes build your dive log and your wishlist.

Explore

The whole dataset on a map and in a directory, by country, by wildlife, by hazard and by kind of dive. The map loads whatever is in view, so you can start where you are and roam. Every dive site has its own page.

My Dives

Your log and wishlist: the sites you loved, the ones you want to go to, and the photos and video you have saved against each dive.

Colour correction

A free tool that gives underwater photos and video their colour back. Drop in a whole folder from the camera; every file is corrected on your own computer and saved where you choose. Nothing is uploaded unless you decide to save the result to your profile.

The dive-site dataset

ScubaTerra holds more than 13,000 dive sites across the world, assembled from public sources and from divers, deduplicated and curated by hand and by machine. Each site carries its location chain (country, state, city and locale), coordinates, depth range, water temperature, access notes, the creatures and hazards divers report there, local operators, and photos and video where we have them.

Every attribute remembers who asserted it and how much weight that assertion carries, so a correction from a diver who was there can outrank a scrape, and a staff edit outranks everything. Coordinates carry their origin too: we never guess a position from a name or merge two sites because they sit close together.

Developers can use the dataset through the ScubaTerra API. See the API page for what it covers, what it costs and how to get a key.

Contributing

Sign in to save your own dive photos and video to the site where they were taken, and to add a dive site that is missing. New sites are reviewed before they appear publicly, and everything you add is credited to you. If a photo you own appears here without permission, contact us and we will take it down.

Dive safety

Everything on ScubaTerra is collected from public sources and from divers, and can be wrong, incomplete or out of date. It is no substitute for training, certification, local knowledge, a current briefing or your own judgement. Diving carries real risk; you dive at your own risk. ScubaTerra is not a dive operator and does not plan, supervise or guarantee any dive.

Who we are

ScubaTerra is made by Goliath Dynamics Inc. in Dauin, Cozumel and Florida, by divers who wanted one honest place to find a site, see what it is really like, and remember it afterwards.
