Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 23, 2026

This policy describes what ScubaTerra (scubaterra.com and the ScubaTerra apps, run by Goliath Dynamics Inc.) collects, why, who else sees it, and the choices you have.

Data collected

  • Visit data. Visitor IP addresses, device information including browser details, the pages you view, and cookies.
  • Account data. When you sign in we keep your email address (your sign-in is a one-time code or link sent to it), together with the display name, experience level, certification agency, skills and profile photo you choose to add.
  • Your dives. Your swipes (loved, want to go, not interested, didn't love it), the dive sites you add, and the photos and video you save to your profile, with the dive site and date you attach to them.
  • Location. The Explore map asks your browser for your location so it can start near you. The position is used to place the map and is not stored.
  • Contact. Email addresses and messages are retained when you contact us directly, including through the chat.
  • Developer accounts. If you apply for API access we keep the application you submit, the keys you issue (we store only a hash of each key) and per-key request counts.

Why we use it

  • To run the service: sign you in, show your log, store your media, review the dive sites and media people add.
  • To keep the service safe: rate limiting, abuse prevention, moderation of comments and media.
  • To understand usage: aggregate analytics (Google Analytics 4) and our own page-view counts. We do not sell personal data and we do not run advertising.
  • To contact you about your account, something you added, or an API application.

Embedded content and third parties

Dive-site pages may embed third-party content: Instagram and YouTube posts, map tiles from CARTO, and photos credited to their sources. Those providers may independently collect visitor data and track interactions through their own cookies and monitoring systems, under their own policies.

Our technology is hosted on Google Cloud Platform, subject to Google's Cloud Data Processing Addendum. Sign-in emails are sent through Amazon Web Services.

Media you save

Photos and video you save to your profile are shown on your profile and on the page for the dive site you attached them to, credited to you. You can delete them from your profile at any time. Files you correct with the colour tool but do not save never leave your computer.

Retention

Account data is kept while your account is open. Metadata from page visits may be retained indefinitely in compliance with statutory and regulatory business recordkeeping requirements. Deleted media is removed from backups within a reasonable period.

Your data rights

You may request an export of your personal data, its deletion, or an opt-out from data sales (we make none) under the CCPA, GDPR or similar regulations. Some retention exceptions apply for legal and security purposes. You must be at least 16 to hold an account.

Changes

We will post changes to this policy here and update the date at the top.
